Opening Ceremony at Dunaskin

Sunday, 2nd August was a red-letter day for the ARPG, when Councillors from East Ayrshire Council, and representatives of Cumnock & Doon Valley Minerals Trust visited Dunaskin to witness the unveiling of a commemorative plaque recording their assistance in the purchase of a significant part of the site.

After a few words of welcome from Group Chairman, Archie Thom, Councillor R McDill of EAC made a short speech of congratulations to the Group and then unveiled the plaque to a round of applause from the assembled company. Councillor S Primrose, representing C&DVMT, also added a few words of encouragement to the Group, wishing us well in our future endeavours.

The honoured guests and friends then viewed a short demonstration of our unique working Fireless locomotive in action, before boarding the passenger brakevan for a short trip along the main line of the former Dalmellington Iron Company hauled by our usual working loco, NCB No. 10.

The party were then invited to tour our recently acquired Locomotive shed, and took time out to visit the ex-LMS Inspection Saloon, which is currently being converted to passenger use and is expected to be pressed into service in the near future.

The invited guests all stated how delighted they were to visit Dunaskin, before retiring to our Tearoom for a light lunch. Many of the guests stayed on for the rest of the day, to take in all there is on offer at Dunaskin. A most enjoyable day was had by all.
