Enjoyed the visit today, hope next season is as good as this years.
We are visiting Ayr 17th to 21st September 2012 and wondered if you had any Steam Open Days planned for then?
Thanks,
Richard Ashworth
Hi Richard,
Afraid the nearest Open Day will be Sunday 23 Sept.
Regards,
Andy Arnot, ARPG.
There is no steam days when you are down Richard, its the 2nd & 23rd September, phone Archie if you want to look around, cheers Aaron ARPG
I will be visiting a friend in Ayr during the the middle of September.
Is there any weekday – in addition to weekend – activities duing that time?
Unfortunately, I will be in Wales on the only weekend portion of my holidays…
Cordially,

Hi Jim,
I’m afraid there are no scheduled weekday openings this year. There are workparties on most Tuesdays however. Phone one of our contact numbers for details when you get to UK.
Regards, Andy Arnot, ARPG.
please can you tell me what time the steam trains start running on steam days ?
thanks
Hi there, is the open days suitable to bring along children?
Thanks
Jennifer
Definitely!
The sign on the road says Summer Sundays train rides. We travelled 35 miles today 10th ;June to find it clsed. Very misleading sign. & dissapointing for the children
Hello, I was wondering what time your steam open day is this sun 24th? Thanks
Can you please tell me the opening hours during the steam open days for 2012.
how much does it cost
4 pounds for an adult, 2 for a concession and 10 pounds for a family ticket.
Despite being more like the “monsoon season” than rain, I felt very sorry for the voluntary workers but they put on a good show. The best £4 spent in a long time, well done lads.
Thanks for the responses. We’ll try to work something out.
Are dogs allowed at the steam open days and on the trains?
Hi Rachel and others,
Yes dogs are welcome at steam days, and are permitted on the train, provided that they are happy with the movement and are OK with children milling around them. The only problem we have ever had is with two dogs strangers to each other, and the problem was solved by one owner taking his pet off to ewait for the following trip.
Great day out, some good stock, I am an enthusiast photographer and I have had some great shots, especially the steam engine, however I find most staff are not very photogenic, it seemed every time I lifted my camera to picture the steam train the driver, ticket puncher etc seemed to hide themselves which to me were ruining some good shots, it’s good to see the driver looking out the cab of the train which iis a good period shot only as I said earlier to see the shot partly wasted as he tends to hide himself, apart from that it’s a superb place for great camera shots and a very interesting mixture of old stock, well done to everyone for all their great work and dedication in keeping the railway centre up and running and I will visit again next year.
Given you have some 16t wagons now and a glorious Ayrshire NCB barclay , what is your enthusiasm for a photo charter ? . If it is something that would appeal drop me an e-mail
Hi Martin
This is something we might look at next year. Only two of the mineral waggons are runners; however, we hope soon to have a mixed rake
of fitted vans available – not authentic with an NCB loco, of course! We also hope to have Barclay fireless loco 1952/1928 ready to steam
next year.
Number 10 has been stripped down and will not be available again until after its annual exam in April/May.
Why not get back to us round about then with suggested dates and we’ll see what we can do?

I am really interested in taking the family on a steam train outing. We have travelled on the Severn Valley line and loved it. Can you give a rough guide of the length of time the visit to Dunaskin, including the trip on the steam train. As we have a distance to travel I would like to incorporate the outing with an overnight stay in the area.
Kind regards
June
