Locomotive News - April 07

Progress on Number 10 and Number 19

The boiler destined for Number 10 has now moved to Israel Newton of Bradford for firebox caulking and adjustments to the regulator. It is expected to return within four weeks. Thereafter a big push will be on to have Number 10 back in steam in time for July open days.

Meanwhile, the cosmetic restoration of Number 19 continues. The boiler (ex No 10), cab, bunkers and tank have all been cleaned and coated in primer. On Saturday March 31st the bits were put back together, so that it now looks like a complete locomotive again. Work on the finished paint job will continue as time allows. It is intended to finish the engine in Bairds and Dalmellington livery, which it would have carried between 1930 and 1948.
